Use a page-wide message with an optional expiration.
Open Status page and add an announcement in the editor. Save it and review the public preview. You can set an expiration time so it stops appearing automatically.
An announcement is a message, not a scheduled maintenance window. It does not pause checks or change incident confirmation rules.
