HTTP and API checks

Choose the method, expected status codes, keywords, and request headers.

Choose the request

HTTP monitors support GET and HEAD. GET can check a response keyword; HEAD has no response body, so a keyword check is unavailable. POST requests, request bodies, and JSON field assertions are not supported.

Checks run hourly, or every 5 minutes when selected on Premium, with a 10-second total timeout.

Define a successful response

  1. Add or edit the monitor and open Advanced settings.
  2. Choose GET or HEAD under Request and response.
  3. Leave Expected status codes blank to accept any 2xx response, or enter comma-separated codes and ranges such as 200-299,401.
  4. For GET, optionally enter an exact, case-sensitive response keyword. Cheapmonit searches the first 1 MB of the response.
  5. Save the monitor and inspect the next check result.

Monitor an authenticated endpoint

Add up to 10 custom request headers for an endpoint that requires credentials. Saved header values stay hidden: you see their names, and can leave a saved value blank when editing to keep it.

Headers go to the monitored host and are removed when redirecting to another host or port. Never put credentials in a public component name or public incident note.
