Domain expiry and registrar monitoring

Follow domain registration changes alongside a regular service check.

1 min read

This guide covers Premium features. Premium is in early access and cannot be bought yet.

Enable domain monitoring

  1. Edit an HTTP monitor whose address uses the domain you want to watch.
  2. Enable domain expiration monitoring in Advanced settings and choose its warning threshold.
  3. Save the monitor. Cheapmonit looks up its registrable domain over RDAP after a regular check, at most once a day.

Understand domain events

An expiring registration can produce a DOMAIN_EXPIRING alert, and a changed registrar can produce a REGISTRAR_CHANGED alert. Registrar changes use the IANA registrar ID when the registry provides one.

A failed registration lookup keeps the last known answer and does not send an expiry or registrar alert. Registration data is distinct from the service’s HTTP result.

Plan and timing

Domain monitoring requires Premium. A lookup is not repeated on every service check, and some registries provide incomplete registration information. Check the observation time before treating a displayed date as current.
